GTR24h will follow the pied piper and we will be running the McLaren Senna Hyper Car instead of the LMP1 car for the 2019 Endurance eRacing World Championship. This was no easy decision and it took us most of the weekend to weigh for and against. But the diminishing problems that come with the Hyper Car change, as well as the “hype” around the new car class, can not be ignored.

At GTR24h we are all hardcore Le Mans and endurance racing fans, and we strive to make our event capture the soul of what it means to drive a real Le Mans race in any of the classes. That be whether it is gentleman’s sports car racing for the challenge and experience of just completing the 24 hours, or it’s the high tech engineering and development time doing strategies and setups for the speed monsters in LMP1. But we have to accept new winds are blowing, and the future of sports car racing is set to change.

We loved the LMP1 for its complexity. The fact that you couldn’t even drive the car without intricate knowledge of data analysis and setup engineering knowledge was a huge part of the catching flair of the blazingly fast monster. If you could make this car go fast, you could count yourself amongst the pinnacle of sim racers. And if you won the race in it. Well. Then you were truly world champions.

But we have to move with the times. Especially since creating and maintaining cars for the platform is becoming an ever-increasing task. The decision was made with the primary focus on ease of maintenance and popularity. And we believe we have found a way of doing the class switch, which will be as fair as we can possibly make it.

13 cars will be allowed in the Hypercar class. The first 9 spots will be occupied by the 9 teams already in LMP1.
