A New Era Sim Racing Starts Now!
Who would have thought that the 2020 24-hours of Le Mans would be a virtual sim race?
Tomorrow at 15.00 CEST will mark the start a brand new era in sim racing and esports in general. The 2020 virtual 24-hours of Le Mans will not only be the biggest competition with most viewers in sim racing history. It will be the biggest event in esport history. An estimated 500 million to 1 billion people from around the globe are expected to tune in and watch parts of the racing during this weekend. This is the promotion of the sport that we could not have dreamed of in our wildest dreams.
The racing will be streamed online, aired on both national and international TV-station around the globe. And everyone will be able to follow the racing for free on the FIAWEC YouTube channel with warmup content from 12.30 UTC, 14:30 CEST tomorrow. https://youtu.be/qGzoLSmAvPY
We at GTR24H could not be happier! Our arms have a really, really hard time coming down from the ceiling. We have been fighting to promote sim racing and endurance sim racing for the last 14 years! And although the circumstances that lead to this situation are indeed scary and tragic, we just can not stop our selves in celebrating this incredible moment for sim racing.
Tonight we learned that pole position in the LMP class will be taken by ByKolles Powered By Burst Esport, with Jernej Simoncic and Jesper Pedersen as the sim racing drivers and Tom Dillmann and Esteban Guerrieri as the real racing drivers. Congratulation to our very supportive competitors for many years in Burst Esport, with this initial perfect result in this historic event.
But many other Endurance eRacing World Championship and GTR24H Sprint Series regulars are to be found on the grid. Names such as Dennis Lind, Kasper Stoltze, Yuri Kasdrop, Mike Epps, Michi Hoyer, Devin Braune, Jimmy Broadbent, Tiziano Brioni, Giuseppe de Fucco, Hani Alsabti, David Tonizza, Alexandre Vromant, Rory MacDuff, James Baldwin and we are sure there are more, but the names are SO many. Sorry if we forgot to mention some of these sim racing stars that have raced in our events over the last 14 years.
Words can not describe how delighted and exited we are to tune in and watch two of our commentators from past years on the live stream as well. Today we also learned that Lewis McGlade and Chris McCarthy are going to be the sim racing hosts for this epic event.
All friends of GTR24H, may you all have an epic race no matter if you are competitors or watching from home!
Let’s all celebrate this epic event, that will most likely change the face of sim racing and elevate our sport and hobby to new levels in the future. Congratulations to all sim racers!
SimRace 247 has made a nice newspost on the race that contains both the complete entry list and a spotter guide for the race: https://simrace247.com/2020/06/12/virtual-le-mans-the-most-important-race-in-sim-racing-history/
